Founder & Visionary, of SoukUk, Preserving and Promoting Handcrafted Traditions
With close to four decades of experience, I have dedicated my professional life to working alongside creative artisans in the traditional handcraft industries of the UK, Europe, and northern India. My journey has taken me into workshops, studios, factories, and rural communities, where I have collaborated with skilled makers whose knowledge and craftsmanship have often been passed down through generations.
My passion lies in preserving these traditional skills and ensuring they continue to thrive in the modern world. I have worked closely with artisans to help them adapt their methods and products to meet the quality, design, and service expectations of contemporary mail order customers and independent retailers. Central to my approach is respecting the integrity of their work while supporting their growth and sustainability.
One of the greatest rewards of my career has been the privilege of personally representing these remarkable craftspeople—as an agent, wholesale importer, and internet retailer. I take pride in introducing their unique creations to a global audience and building lasting relationships that benefit both the makers and those who appreciate their artistry.
My own hands-on experience covers a wide range of materials and techniques, including wood, fabric, paint, resin, plaster, ceramics, nonferrous metals, paper, and print. This practical background has given me a deep appreciation for the challenges and rewards of traditional craftsmanship.
In addition to my work with physical materials, I have embraced the opportunities offered by digital technology. Since first encountering computers and spreadsheets in 1983 and launching my own online mail order website in 2003, I have developed significant expertise in internet advertising, e-commerce, and digital retail strategy. These skills have been instrumental in building and growing SoukUk, allowing me to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation.
At SoukUk my mission is to celebrate, support, and share the work of talented artisans, ensuring their skills endure and prosper in a changing world. I am committed to fostering creativity, quality, and sustainability in every aspect of our business.
